The beer keg refrigerator is a very handy item to have. Beer is a perishable drink. Although it contains alcohol, it can still go bad if allowed to get warm. Loss of carbonation also renders the beer undrinkable, creating a second threat to your ale. Buying or renting a keg refrigerator can solve both of these problems for you.

Beer is an alcoholic liquid made from malted barley, water, aromatic hops, and yeast. The yeast performs several biological steps to convert the malt sugars to alcohol. Brewers remove the yeast and any residue after the brewing process. However, the introduction of everyday bacteria and organisms might cause the beer to turn. Refrigeration of the keg prevents this from happening.

Beer is also highly carbonated. That's the head of foam that appears when you pour a mug of beer. The keg may fit inside a standard refrigerator if all the shelves and drawers are removed. An alternative is to pack the keg in ice in a large container such as a new trash can. Beer that has lost its carbonation is called flat. If you've ever tasted flat beer, you know you never want to do so again. Cold beer can hold more carbonation than warm beer, so a keg refrigerator is one of the keys to getting the most out of a beer keg.

Even if you have a keg refrigerator for your beer, the pumping system can cause problems. Some keg distributors use pressurized kegs by adding carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Others depend on a hand-pump to pressurize the keg and force the beer out the dispenser. Hand pumps work by pumping room air directly into the beer, which is not a good idea. Use a gas pressurized keg in your keg refrigerator if possible.

Warmth and microorganisms are the enemies of beer. Heat causes excess beer foaming as the beer loses its carbonation, and may encourage the growth of unwanted bacteria. Use a beer keg refrigerator to keep your beer fresh and protected.
