Hotel staff like room service staff and the bell hop are paid meager salaries and tips are very much appreciated. The bell boy should get a bare minimum of $1/bag, and housekeeping should get at least a couple dollars a day. You can almost guarantee that you will have a pleasurable stay by doing so.

If you are traveling to a different time zone, keep yourself awake until around 8pm or later in the new time zone in order to help you adjust. Stay up even if you feel tired, or you will never adapt to the new time zone and remain jet lagged. Adjusting to local time is best way to defeat the effects of jet lag.

Also bring travel candles for when you stay in a hotel. This can make the scent of your room more appealing. Bringing travel candles along with you on vacation will help the smell of your room, add a romantic ambiance and help you get some well needed rest. A lot of retailers carry these candles, which sell in sizes convenient for travel and devoid of wax drips.

Make sure your dog is well behaved if you are traveling with him. They need to be thoroughly trained in leash and command use as well as kept on a leash during any portion of travel where people are present. When traveling, you can assure the safety of your pet by being in control of his activities at all times.

Check the expiration dates on your passports. There are rules about your passport in many countries. Many will not let you enter their country if your passport expires in a certain window of time. These tend to range from three to six months, but in some cases can reach eight months or even a year.

If you are traveling to another country, you should buy an electrical adapter before you leave home for your electronic devices. Shop around your local discount stores for the best deal. If you buy one from the airport or a shop near the hotel, you will probably pay a lot more than the normal price.

When traveling in strange cities, be alert for criminals posing as police officers or other government officials. Do not ever give someone your passport; they may steal it. If you are advised that you need to return with them to the police station or another office, travel with them only by foot. In order to stay safe, never ride in a car with someone you don't know.
