If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. (Proverbs 24:10)
In life, what matters is not what projects we start but what projects we finish. Finishing is the key to building a life of success. Everyone wants to have a series of small victories which leads to a successful life.
Let me give you a working definition of success. After years of prayer, research, training and teaching on personal development, I have settled on a working definition as follows:
Success: "The progressive realization of a God-given pre-determined goal."
Let's do what I teach our leaders to always do-throw a statement up on the wall to see if it can stand up to the scrutiny of the "truth test." Whatever is true will always stand.
Success is progressive. Others have put it this way, "Success is a journey not a destination."
Success must be realized. It must not just linger. At some point we should see what it is we are working to see. There is a dimension of achievement that must be realized.
Success is always God-given. Any success that is in opposition to what God has called a person to do cannot really be called success. It's not true success. A person can have a victory or accomplish a feat. Let's say it's an illegal feat. They may have achieved something but if it was to their own end and not God's intended purpose then we really cannot call that success.
Success is measurable. The reason it is measurable is because what we set out to do is a pre-determined goal. It is not doing a bunch of random acts and then when something works we call it success. No! Success is measured when a pre-determined goal is achieved!
